Most people would r think that Viagra would be only used help women get pregnant, but that was it. The pill is generally prescribed to help men achieve erection by helping to simulate blood flow in the penis. Now that same concept is being transposed to the womb.
Doctors hope that by giving women Viagra during pregnancy they will help stimulate blood flow to the womb. This increase blood flow, scientist hope, will help increase the growth of the unborn baby. The Viagra would be used for mother’s that are expected to have low-birth weight babies.
A clinical trial will begin in New Zealand with one group receiving a placebo and another group receiving a generic version of Viagra.
This is not the first time Viagra has been used for other conditions. In fact, it was originally being tested for angina and hypertension. Its most popular use was just something that researchers just happened to stumble upon.
Viagra’s more technical name is Sildenafil. Siladenafil has been package under the name Revatio and has been used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. It also has been use in the treatment and prevention of high-altitude pulmonary edema.
