Elmo attended the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Hollywood Meets Motown Colon Cancer Benefit in New York on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 The event helps raise money for colon cancer, a cause close to Katie Couric’s. Katie’s husband,Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998 at the age of 42. Since that time she has been working to educate people about colon cancer hoping they will get tested.
Colorectal cancer is the second most deadly cancer in the United States. According to the Colon Cancer Alliance website these are some symptoms of colon cancer.
* a change in bowel habits
* diarrhea or constipation
* narrower than normal stools
* unexplained weight loss
* constant tiredness
* blood in the stool
* feeling that the bowel does not empty completely
* abdominal discomfort: gas, bloating, fullness, cramps
