An article by LiveScience discusses a study that links fear and anxiety to longer labor. The study says that labor will last an average of 47 minutes longer and with chances for more interventions if mom is afraid of childbirth. This study goes along with many of the things that are spoken about in childbirth classes. They all teach moms to how to breathe and try to relax during childbirth. Many types of child birth classes are offered by doctor’s offices, hospitals, and private companies. For busy parents, there are also childbirth classes offered online and on DVD. Even though not being fearful of childbirth is best, it does not guarantee that there will be no complications. Sometimes all the precautions are made, and labor may not go as moms would have liked. The goal is for both mom and baby to be healthy.
