New Jersey will be requiring that all women be tested for HIV during their 1st and 3rd trimester. Babies that are born to women that refused to be tested will be tested at birth. Women can also refuse to be tested for religious reason. The reason for the law is to prevent the transmittal of HIV from mother to baby. A Pregnant woman that is HIV positive can take medication that reduces the risk of her baby contracting HIV.
