After over 40 years of being on the air Sesame Street continues to impress the critics and viewers.  Once evidence of that is the 16 Daytime Emmy Award nominations.  Sesame Street has the 3rd most Emmy nominations; General Hospital leads the pack with 21 nominations, while Young and the Restless is 2nd with 20 nominations.  

The nominations are for:

  • Outstanding Pre-school Children’s Series
  • Outstanding Performer in a Children Series had Sesame Street taking all nominations with Kevin Clash as Elmo, Caroll Spinney as Oscar the Grouch, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph as Abby Cadabby, Eric Jacobson as Grover and Iron Monster.
  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design
  • Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling
  • Outstanding Directing in a Children’s Series
  • Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Multiple Camera Editing
  • Outstanding Original Song-Children’s and Animation
    This category also had multiple nominations.   There was one nomination for the song “What I Am” ,a second nomination for the song “I Wonder”, and a third nomination for “Rakhi Road.”
  • Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing-Live Action and Animation
  • Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/ Electronic Camera/Video Control
  • Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Series

This year’s Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on June 19th on CBS.   This year’s host will be Wayne Brady.  Wayne Brady currently hosts Let’s Make a Deal on CBS.
