The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) gave several awards to television shows and movies that highlight important mental health and substance abuse issues. Sesame Street was given a 2010 Voice Award from SAMHSA for “Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change.” “Coming Home: Military Families Cope” received the Voice Award for addressing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury on military families. Sesame Street’s Elmo was in attendance for the award ceremony as one of the presenters of the awards.
