Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

If you have been watching Sesame Street on PBS, then you have seen the commercials for the new animated series called Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.   The program is a spin-off of the legendary program, “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”, which first began on Canadian public television before airing on the public broadcasting stations in the United States from 1970 to 2001.   During that time the show was hosted by the late Fred Rogers, who also started the Fred Rogers Company.     Fred Rogers Company is now behind the new “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.”  Daniel in “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” is the 4 year old son of the Daniel in “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.”  Several other character are younger generational members of some of the original characters of “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”:  O the Owl is the nephew of X the Owl; Katerina Kittycat is the daughter of Henrietta Pussycat; Prince Wednesday is related to King Friday; Miss Elaina is the daughter of Lady Elaine Fairchilde and Music Man Stan.   Parents and grandparents will probably get a little nostalgic as the view the program that is so similar to the one they watched decades ago.   “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”  premieres on PBS Kids on September 3rd.
