The Official Kensington Palace twitter account announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have named their third child Louis Arthur Charles. “Charles” seems to be a nod to Prince William’s father, Prince Charles. Louis is the name of Prince Phillip’s grandfather, Prince Louis of Battenberg. Louis is also the name of Prince Phillip’s uncle, Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was assassinated by the IRA (Provisional Irish Republican Army) in 1979. Arthur is a middle name of Prince William and Prince Charles; that is also the name of Queen Elizabeth’s godfather and great-uncle, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. It seems that many loved members of the family were honored in the choosing of young Prince Louis’s name.
