Prince William and Kate Middleton on their wedding day,April 29,2011

Last year Prince William and Duchess Catherine were united in marriage as the whole excitedly watched their royal nuptials play out live on television.   Now word has come that the prince and his bride are expecting their first child.  An official due date has not been released and the couple have tried to keep their privacy even as others try to pilfer any information.  Some information has been reported on cnn about the Duchess’ condition.    Kate’s pregnancy has started off with a little difficulty with her having to be  hospitalized for a few days because hyperemesis gravidarum, an acute form of morning sickness.  Days after entering the hospital, she was photographed smiling as she walked  out of the hospital holding a bouquet of flowers and escorted by Prince William.   An official statement was released saying that the Duchess was now resting at home.

Kate’s condition has led to many other women sharing their experience with the condition.   The majority of pregnant women have some form of morning sickness, but hyperemesis gravidarum is a more severe form of morning sickness with increased nausea, and vomiting.   Some pregnant women, like in the case of Kate Middleton, have to be hospitalized.   According to the National institute of  Health, women with hyperemesis gravidarum may require intravenous fluids to replace those that are lost through vomiting or not being able to drink because of the extreme nausea.     This condition usually subsides and goes away by the time that expectant moms are 20 weeks pregnant, but there are some women that have the condition longer or through the whole length of their pregnancy.

Some have had hyperemesis gravidarum in multiple pregnancies while others have only experienced it in one pregnancy.  Pregnant moms should always contact their medical provider when they are unsure about any of the symptoms that they are experiencing.
